Principal's Message

Dear Gisler School Community,

I hope that this message finds you enjoying the rejuvenating days of summer. Soon, I know that you and your family will be looking forward to the upcoming 2022-23 school year!

I am excited and honored to join the Gisler family community as your new principal. I come to you with a diverse background of 24 years in education: 17 years in the classroom teaching (Gen. Ed. Spec. Ed., Title 1, GATE, and lots and lots of committees), seven years as a Vice Principal all within Downey Unified School District, and I am currently working on my doctorate from Concordia University, Irvine under the umbrella of social-emotional learning and restorative practices.

My leadership style you will find is one that welcomes feedback from all stakeholders, with an open door policy, I am transparent, supportive, and a strategic problem solver that is assertive when needed, and visible always. If you can't find me in the office it is more than likely I am in one of our amazing classrooms participating in the learning fun, engaging with students on our playground, and generally ensuring a safe and secure environment for your children to thrive and grow in on a daily basis.

On a personal note, I grew up in Fountain Valley. Family is very important to me and yes, my parents still live down the road from Gisler- I am sure they will pop in for a visit or two or in true mom fashion offer up some food. I am recently married and we have two beautiful fur children that keep us on our toes. I have a love for travel and believe in embracing new cultures and places to build upon my respect for different points of view and ways of life.

In closing, I look forward to our first school year together learning and growing with our amazing students, dedicated staff, supportive parents, and community.

With Gator Pride,

Ms. Katherine Pavidis
Principal, Gisler Elementary
